    What is a Hard Reset?

    A hard reset means switching your heat pump completely off and on again in the correct order. It clears temporary faults, refreshes the electronics, and may get your system working again without needing an engineer. This can be particularly useful after a power cut or if you have a communications error.

    Why Would You Do It?

    • The system isn’t responding to the controller.
    • The display is frozen or showing an error code.
    • The heat pump has stopped running unexpectedly.
    • To clear a minor fault before calling an engineer (take a note of the fault code before you do this)
    • Heating system not working after a power cut.

     A hard reset won’t fix major issues — if the same problem comes back, please contact us.

     How to Do a Hard Reset

    1. Turn Off the Controller (Indoor Unit): Use the on/off button or menu on your heat pump controller or switch off at the wall.
    2. Turn Off the Outdoor Isolator: Switch the rotary isolator beside the outdoor unit to the “OFF” position.
    3. Wait 5 Minutes: This gives the system time to fully discharge and reset.
    4. Turn the Outdoor Isolator Back On: Rotate the isolator back to “ON”.
    5. Turn the Controller Back On: Power up the indoor unit and allow the system a few minutes to restart.

    Manufacturer Specific Information

    Mitsubishi Ecodan FTC 5/6/7 controller: After the main controller/thermostat has reloaded to 100%, press the power button on the bottom right to switch the system back on.

    Samsung – Generation 7 r290 Heat Pumps with Generation 6 controller: After following steps 1-5, turn on each heating and hot water zone individually form the main controller / thermostat.  To do this, press the power button on the bottom left of the controller when each zone is highlighted on the screen. A blue light indicates the zone is turned on.

    When to Call Us?

    • Do not repeat resets again and again — if the fault returns, contact us.
